Scooby-Who!

Episode One

by esherrouse

The thunder clacked as the sky lighted up with streaks of blue bolts. Rain poured down. Up on the hillside was a desolate looking large house. The shutters slammed in the gusts of wind. There was a strange whirring sound in the distance it seemed to be coming from within the house somewhere.

Inside the house, the activity was about as lively as outside. A tall lanky man with a bit of stubble growing on his chin zoomed by one of the open windows.

"Yikes!!!! - Like Run Scoob! He's right behind us!"

A large dog pelted down the hall after him screaming, "Ri row Raggy!"

A loud growl from the darkest regions of a distant abyss let out a call behind them. They zoomed past each window in streaks of Brown and Green as a Furry Werewolf-like creature closed in on them.

"Quick in here" They ran into a closet. The Werecreature came to a pause and looked around outside the door.

He then opened it and looked inside where he found a tall Gypsy looking fellow. He was incredibly tall actually - about twice that of a normal man.

The head at the top said, "The ones you seek went that away." A brown paw from the tall gypsy's over coat stuck out and pointed to the left. The creature shut the door for a moment and then turned to reopen it as the door slammed him in the face and the green and brown blurs raced by again.

They continued to race down the stairs as Shaggy looked back at Scooby and said,

"I think we lost him"

He crashed into a big blue box at the foot of the stairs. His face slid down the side as birds flew around his head.

Scooby skidded to a halt next to him and looked back to see if the monster was still in pursuit.

Shaggy sat up and said, "Like, wow, man. Who put this blue box in the middle of the stairway?" Scooby walked around it and sniffed it a few times and replied,"Ri ron't Row?" Shaggy leaned forward to read the writing on the front. "Police Public ..."

He trailed off as the door popped open and a man stuck his head out, completing Shaggy's words:

"Call Box!"

Shaggy stepped back a second.

"Zoinks!"

Then caught his breath and said, "You nearly scared me to death."

The man looked past Shaggy and said, "Not as much as I imagine that will. RUN!!!"

Episode Two

by Gaz the Hack

The hairy giant creature rose up at the head of the stairway and howled. Shaggy and Scooby leapt into the air, rigid with fright, before trying to climb over the police box. Avoiding their flailing limbs, the curly haired man stepped out of the box and looked with interest at the werewolf.

"Run from what, Doctor?" asked the blonde, aristocratic young lady who followed him. She was dressed in a well tailored dark blue suit with a frilly cravat.

"This angry looking fellow coming down the stairs." The Doctor raised his felt hat and grinned widely. "Hello!"

"BLAARGURAAHARA!"

"What did he say?" queried Romana at his elbow.

"I'm not sure." The Doctor rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I can't quite make out the accent."

Shaggy peered around the corner of box and boggled as the creature stood in front of the newcomers, still roaring. "What are you crazy kooks up to? Let's get out of here!" His dog agreed fervently, making running gestures and whimpering. "Oh I'm sure we can sort this out," beamed the Doctor.

The werewolf disagreed with this prediction.

He grabbed the Doctor and held above his head, shaking him vigorously. Romana stepped back in alarm, then looked around frantically for something heavy to use as a weapon. She glared at the lanky youth and his over-acting hound. "Well? Help me!" Before Shaggy could resolve his dilemma between cowardice and impressing this babe, the monster hurled the Doctor across the hall in a whirl of scarf, arms and legs. He landed with a heavy thump, spreadeagled against the wall before sliding slowly down.

Romana frowned. Was that twittering birds she could hear? She turned to face her hairy assailant but to her amazement, he was gone.

"Like, he just vanished man!" gasped Shaggy. "Pheeew!" sighed Scooby, theatrically wiping his brow. Then he padded over to the man's prone body and gave his face a lick. The reaction was instantaneous.

The man (Doctor hadn't she called him?) sprang up and cried, "Romana! I think I made contact with him!"

"It's all rather odd isn't?" she said as she helped him up.

"Yeah, like why did he just leave like that after chasing round the house for ages?" asked Shaggy. They ignored him and looked at their surroundings.

"A plantation mansion by the looks of it, nineteenth century, later half," decided the Doctor after pressing his ear to the wall and listening. "We're near New Orleans. Excellent! I could just do with some gumbo!"

"The inhabitants have some odd habits if your attacker is anything to go by," ventured his friend, brushing back her fringe.

The Doctor suddenly seem to remember they had company. "Is this your house?"

"No way man. The last thing I need is a creepy heap like this place!" exclaimed the sloppily dressed Shaggy.

"Uh huh" agreed Scooby, forepaws crossed. They were certainly quite a pair thought Romana to herself.

"Only reason we're here is that our van broke down at the gates. We came here and split up to find some help."

"Split up?" Before he could ask more, the Doctor saw torchlights down the corridor. Shaggy had seen them too. "Hey guys!" Shaggy waved frantically. "Rover rere!" yelped Scooby.

The torchlights grew larger and then three teenagers stepped out of the gloom.

Episode Three

by BlameLewis

"Hello," said the Doctor, grinning and raising his hat to the newcomers. "I'm the..." He stopped, frozen in mid grin, staring at the now visible three in front of him. Two women and a man. "I've the strangest feeling we've met!" he said to the leader - a tall, blonde man in a white pullover.

"Hey like - guys!" began Shaggy, "I'll introduce you!" He stepped up to the three and pointed at the man. "This is like, Fred," he pointed next to a short, brown haired girl, wearing spectacles that didn't seem to fit her, and blinking rapidly. "That's Velma." And finally he pointed to the glamourous girl on the other side of Fred. She wore a purple suit, almost like a uniform... "She's Daphne! I'm Shaggy, and the mutt is Scooby!"

"'Oooby- Doooby-Doooo!" whelped Scooby, grinning.

"So now, like - we're all um... here. Yeah!"

Fred was looking a little shocked, and more than a little guilty. His pleasant, open face had a youthful look about it, an air of innocence - almost... naivety... Either side of him, the girls gaped openly at the Doctor, standing there, hat in hand, grin fading.

"But... D-?" began Velma, in aristocratic tones.

"Shhh." hissed Fred. Then he stepped forward and offered a hand to the Doctor. "how do you do? I'm the... er... Fred." he said

"For crying out loud..." muttered Daphne, an odd, nasal twang in her accent.

The Doctor took Fred's outstretched hand, and then looked sharply into his eyes.

"What are you doing here?" they said simultaneously.

Shaggy was puzzled: "Hey, like Fred - do you know this guy? What's your name again?"

Glaring pointedly at Fred, who looked a whole flock worth of sheepish, the Doctor announced: "How do you do? I'm the Doctor."

"oooo?" yowped Scoob.

"Romana." said Romana, with a wry smile, shaking Scooby's paw, Shaggy's hand (as he gazed at her with an awestruck smile, she thought for a moment she could see several small red shapes drifting out from his head, then she blinked and they were gone...) She shook the hands of the three 'kids' with a grin, and a raised eyebrow at Fred.

"So does someone want to explain, please?" demanded Daphne in a harsh voice. Definately an Antipodean accent there, Romana noticed...

Suddenly there was an eerie trundling noise, and a strange angular shadow appeared on the far wall. Scooby yelped and leapt into Shaggy's arms, just as Shaggy yelped and leapt into Scooby's paws - the two of them hung in midair for a quivering second before collapsing to the floor in a heap of terrror. The shadow grew larger still, and a demonic red light grew visible sliding along through the foggy atmosphere of the creepy mansion...

"Master!" came an electronic voice.

"It's alright - it's K9", Romana whispered to Shaggy and Scooby. Nobody noticed the smile on Fred's face as the small robotic dog trundled into sight. Scooby approached tentatively, stopping and staring at the strange new arrival, nose to nose-ray.

"Canine - breed: great Dane. Low Intelligence, Appetite for small biscuits unsurpassed. No Danger." K9 summarised, extending his probe from his red glowing face-plate. Scooby sniffed at him suspiciously, then walked slowly around to the metallic tail.

"Scoob!" warned Shaggy...

"Large animal approaching!" K9 warned. "Danger, Master, Danger! Sensors indicate...." he go no further, as he was cut off by a huge roar from behind the group.

"RRARHUGHARGAHARGARHGBLEGBLEGGBLEGGARHARHAR!!!!!"

"Brave Heart, erm... Daphne" said Fred.

"Like- RRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" yelled Shaggy, and demonstrated how...

Episode Four

by Davros41

"I think we should follow the Shaggy shaped blur," Romana commented and the six new acquiantances ran for it, followed at a slower pace by K.9.

"K.9., keep our hairy friend at bay," The Doctor called back over his shoulder to his robot pet.

"Affirmative, Master," K.9. replied, turning to face the oncoming werewolf like creature.

The time travellers and their new friends reached the end of the corridor. Two new passages split off from it.

"I think we should split up," said Fred, "try and confuse it."

The Doctor nodded. "Romana, you take these three," he pointed to Velma, Shaggy and Scooby, "and go left. The rest of us will go right."

"Do you really think that's a good idea?" Shaggy asked. "Didn't you ever hear of safety in numbers?"

"Reah," Scooby wavered.

"No, Fred's right," said Romana. "It's a classic divide and conquer strategy."

"So long as it's not we divide and it conquers," Shaggy grumbled.

At that moment K.9. came trundling into view.

"Creature nullified, Master," he announced.

"You destroyed it?" The Doctor asked.

"Negative. Creature disappeared when fired upon. Whereabouts unknown."

The Doctor stroked his chin. "This creature of yours seems to disappear a lot."

"They usually do," Velma confirmed.

Romana took The Doctor aside for a whispered conference.

"Are you sure we can trust these people?" she asked.

"Oh, they seem genuine enough," he replied.

Romana looked concerned. "Are you alright, Doctor? You're looking strangely drawn."

"I'm fine," he told her, "but I was thinking you're looking a little flat yourself."

Any reply from Romana was drowned out by another sound.

"BLAARGURAAHARA!"

"Oh no," cried Shaggy. "It looks like hairy and unreasonable is back. Run for you lives!"

Nobody needed any other encouragement.

Some time later Romana, Shaggy and Scooby came to a halt. The youth and his dog were both panting hard, while Romana didn't even seem out of breath.

"It's alright, we seem to have lost it," Romana reported.

"Along with the rest of the gang," moaned Shaggy.

"Rhere's Relma?" Scooby whimpered.

"Well, she was right behind us," Shaggy said. "Maybe she fell through a trapdoor."

Romana regarded him with hands on hips. "Is that likely?"

"Rery," Scooby commented.

"Hey," called Shaggy from a nearby open doorway. "Look what I found."

"Have you found a clue?" asked Romana hopefully.

"Better than that. Food." Shaggy had discovered the kitchen.

"Rungry," was Scooby's enthusiastic reply.

"Me too, old friend. Like, let's eat."

Romana found that she too was a little peckish. "What are you making?" she inquired of Shaggy, who already had his head in the fridge, gathering up whatever came to hand.

"A hero sandwich," he announced grandly, laying out the contents on a large table.

"Rero randwich," Scooby echoed.

Romana knew she was going to regret the next question. "And what is a hero sandwich?"

"One of everything in a large bread bun," came the satisfied reply as Shaggy got to work creating his masterpiece.

A short time later the work was done and Shaggy was admiring his art.

"Excuse me," said Romana. "Do you remember that word you used when you first ran into The Doctor?"

"What, Zionks?"

"That's the one. Now might be a good time to use it again. Our hairy friend is back."

"ZIONKS!" Shaggy exclaimed. All thoughts of food forgotten he Scooby and Romana dashed from the kitchen, pursued by a large, hairy and very angry figure.

Meanwhile, The Doctor's party found themselves in a wood panelled sitting room.

"Just like auxiliary control," The Doctor commented. Fred flinched.

"What did you say?" asked Daphne.

"Oh, nothing my dear, just thinking aloud."

"Well, we seem to be in the clear for now," commented Fred.

"That's because the creature followed your friends and Romana," The Doctor told him. Fred looked abashed. But before he could reply, K.9. trundled forward.

"Lifeform approaching, Master, bearing three point one degrees, thirty metres."

"Is it the creature?" asked Daphne.

"Negative, Miss."

"Then what is it, K.9.?" The Doctor inquired.

"Unknown humanoid. Now twenty metres away."

"Hide," Fred suggested. Everybody thought this was a good idea.

Moments later the door creaked open and a long shadow was cast into the room. Slowly the shadow moved forward, towards the floor length curtains. A thin, bony hand threw back the curtain, revealing Daphne, who gasped in shock.

Romana, Shaggy and Scooby had stopped running when they were sure the creature wasn't following them. They paused for breath in a long passageway.

"Whoa, man, like that was too close," Shaggy exclaimed.

"Reah, roo rose," Scooby agreed.

Romana was deep in thought. "It's funny how that creature seems able to appear and disappear at will," she mused.

"Funny?" echoed Shaggy. "I don't see anybody laughing. They must have strange jokes where you come from."

"They do," Romana agreed. "Now, let's see if we can find the others."

As the three of them set off down the passage, they passed a life size painting on the wall of a man in eighteenth century garb. Unnoticed, the eyes of the painting swivelled to follow them.

"I must admit, you gave me quite a scare." So said the man who had discovered Daphne hiding behind the curtain. He was about her height, thin and going bald. He carried a lighted candle.

"Hello, I'm The Doctor and this is, erm, Fred and Daphne."

"Pleased to meet you folks. My name is Bob Wilkes. I'm the caretaker of this house. When I saw some lights were on, I came to investigate."

"We're sorry to disturb you," Fred told him. "Our,erm, transport, broke down and we came here for help." The Doctor glanced at him. Fred didn't return his gaze.

Wilkes shook his head. "There's no help to be had here, I'm afraid. Nobody lives here anymore. Well, unless you count the monster!"

Velma hated to be tied up. She also hated falling through hidden panels, losing her glasses and being knocked unconscious. All in all, today was not turning out to be a good day.

At least whoever had tied her to the chair had returned her glasses, as she could feel them on her nose. This was the only way to tell, as there were no lights on.

She sighed slightly. She supposed she had to try it.

"Help! Shaggy, Scooby, anyone. Help."

"No need to shout," said a hoarse voice from behind her.

Velma jumped, despite the ropes holding her to the chair. "Who are you? Why have you tied me up?"

"I didn't tie you up," replied the voice, getting a little stronger. "In fact I'm tied up myself."

This surprised Velma. "Why are you tied up?"

"Because of who I am. Let me explain..."

Romana, Shaggy and Scooby were making their way quietly down a corridor when they heard a creaking sound from up ahead. They froze.

"What was that?" Shaggy asked, even his voice trembling.

"Sounded like a door opening. Look."

They followed Romana's pointing finger. Sure enough, up ahead a rectangle of light was shining across the corridor. And in that rectangle was a large shadow.

"Oh, no, it's him again. Like, let's go."

"Not so fast," said Romana, grasping Shaggy's shirt and Scooby's collar. For just a second, she could have sworn she saw their legs blurring like speeding windmills. "Let's see who or what it is before we run."

At that moment a figure stepped into the corridor. It was a man, heavily built with closely shaved hair and small eyes. He regarded them in silence for a moment.

"Who are you?" he finally inquired.

"I'm Romana, this is Shaggy and his dog Scooby Doo. And you are?"

"Wilkes. David Wilkes. I'm the handyman around here. I live in the cottage at the back of the house."

"Well, that is handy," quipped Shaggy nervously.

Before Wilkes could reply a loud roar came from behind them.

"Can you run, Mister Wilkes?" asked Romana. Wilkes nodded. "Then I suggest you demonstrate." Wilkes obliged, quickly followed by Romana, Shaggy and Scooby.

Bob Wilkes chuckled. "I was only joking, kids. People have reported a monster roaming these corridors but I have never seen it in ten years."

"Well, we have," The Doctor told him.

Wilkes looked at him sideways. "You're serious," he decided.

"It's true," Fred confirmed. "It chased our friends and now we don't know where they are."

"So there are more of you?"

"Another four," Daphne said.

At that moment K.9. butted in.

"Sound detected, Master."

"What is it, K.9.?"

"Human voice, identified as belonging to female Velma. Appeal for help came form four levles below current location."

Wilkes considered for a moment. "That would be the cellar."

"Then let's go," Fred decided. They all headed for the door.

"...And that's how I came to be here."

Velma paused, considering what she had been told. A smile spread across her face.

"I think I know what's going on here, now," she said triumphantly.

Romana's party had reached an intersection in the corridors. On a whim, Romana turned left, followed closely by Shaggy and Scooby.

"Rey, Rilkes ras rone."

Shaggy glanced back. "Scoob's right. He must have gone the other way. Hope the creature is chasing him."

"Ro ruch ruck." As if to confirm what Scooby had said, another roar came from behind them.

"Quick," said Shaggy. "In here." He wrenched open a side door and they all dived inside.

Moments later the creature reached the door. It paused, sniffing the air.

"I hope this works," said Romana, doubtfully.

The creature pulled open the door to find three geisha girls. One was blonde, one had a hairy chin and one was hairy all over.

"The ones you seek," said the hairy chinned one, "went that way." She pointed down the corridor.

The creature grunted it's thanks and closed the door.

Back out in the corridor the creature was about to move off in pursuit when a thought entered it's small brain. It pulled open the door again and bellowed it's anger.

"Like, run," shouted Shaggy. They did, the geisha girl costumes flying off behind them.

The Doctor's hand closed on the handle of the cellar door.

"Tell you what," said Wilkes. "I'll go back to the cottage, find my brother David and send him for the police. I'll be back shortly."

"Right," said Fred. "That sounds like a good idea."

Leaving K.9. on guard at the top, the others descended into the cellar. Fred found the light switch and flooded the room with a bright glow.

Revealed was a bare expanse of floor with two chairs in the middle. Tied to the chairs were two people, one familiar, one not. They were both squinting against the light. Velma recovered first.

"About time," she commented, seeing who had arrived. "Where are the others?"

"Keeping the creature busy," said Daphne. "Who's your friend?"

Velma massaged her wrists where Fred had untied her. "This is Jason Tarrant. He owns this house."

"So, Mister Tarrant, perhaps you can explain what is going on," The Doctor commented.

Tarrant shook his head a little groggily as he stood up. "I think your friend can explain it better."

Velma smiled. "What's happening is this..."

Romana, Shaggy and Scooby had reached the top of a long flight of stairs.

"Re's raining."

"Scooby's right," Romana said. "The creature is catching us up."

"Time for plan B," Shaggy announced.

Before Romana could ask, Shaggy jumped onto the bannister rail and started to slide down. Scooby followed him. Romana sighed and did the same.

Everything was going fine until Shaggy looked back. "Oh, no!"

Romana turned to see the creature also sliding down the bannister, and gaining.

The bottom of the stairs came into view. Shaggy, Scooby, Romana and the creature, in that order, slid off the end and landed in a tangled heap. Shaggy's head emerged from the pile of limbs.

"Last on to the front door is a chicken," he said. He, Romana and Scooby raced off, pursued by the creature.

"Friends approaching, Master. Creature in pursuit."

"Thank you, K.9. Now, is everybody ready?" They all nodded. "Good," The Doctor grinned. "Let's catch ourselves a creature."

Romana, Shaggy and Scooby were running along a long corridor, the creature on their heels.

"I can't go on much longer," Shaggy complained.

"You must," Romana told him.

They passed a pair of open doorways opposite each other. As they did The Doctor's voice yelled, "Now," and he and Fred, in the other doorway, pulled The Doctor's scarf taut across the corridor. The creature, not seeing it in time, fell headlong.

The Doctor and Fred grinned at each other as the creature landed on it's face. Daphne appeared from the next door down and smashed a vase over it's head. The creature slumped, out cold.

Romana, Shaggy and Scooby had slid to a halt further up the corridor. They now returned to greet their friends.

"Man, are we ever glad to see you guys," Shaggy said.

"Reah," Scooby confirmed.

"And now," said Velma, grasping hold of the creature's hairy scalp, "let's see who's under the mask."

The mask came off in her hand. Romana, Shaggy and Scooby gasped.

"It's Mister Wilkes, the handyman!" exclaimed Shaggy.

An hour later the police had arrived and everybody was outside the house. Romana, Shaggy and Scooby were being brought up to date.

"Jason Tarrant's father owned this house and quite a bit of land around," explained Velma. "He lost touch with his only son. When he died his will left everything to Jason, provided he claimed his inheritance within five years, or everything would go to the Wilkes brothers, who looked after the estate."

"And Jason turned up," Romana surmised.

"Yes, a month before the five years was up. They knocked him out and locked him in the cellar."

"And the monster?" asked Shaggy.

"That was to keep people away from the house," Fred said. "They started that up just after Jason's dad died to scare away the other staff."

"Why did we see the creature when Wilkes was with us?" Shaggy wanted to know. "And how did it keep disappearing?"

"That's simple," said The Doctor. "They set up a number of projectors and filmed David Wilkes in the creature suit. It disappeared in areas without the projectors."

At that moment Bob Wilkes was hauled past between two deputies.

"We'd have got away with it, too, if it hadn't been for you meddlesome kids and your strange friends."

"Well, I'm glad it's all over," said Shaggy. He shook The Doctor's hand. "Goodbye." He then kissed Romana lightly on the cheek, which startled her slightly.

"Goodbye," The Doctor said, shaking Shaggy's hand and Scooby's paw at the same time. Romana returned Shaggy's kiss. For a moment she could swear she heard violin music.

The Doctor and Fred shook hands. "Well,I'm sure we will meet again in the future."

"Or the past," said Fred, a smile spreading across his face.

"Goodbye, ladies," The Doctor said to Daphne and Velma.

"Bye, Doctor," they replied, a little subdued.

"Goodbye, everyone," Romana said.

As she and The Doctor left she turned to him. "That Fred. Was he..?"

"Don't ask," The Doctor replied. "Now, where did we leave the TARDIS?"

As they disappeared, Velma turned to Fred. "Look, why didn't you just..."

"Don't ask," Fred replied. "Now, where did we leave the, erm, van?"

"Well, Scoob, I think after all that excitement, we both deserve a Scooby snack." He felt about in his pocket. "Oh, dear. Just one left," he said, producing the round, flat snack biscuit. "I'll toss you for it."

So saying he flipped the biscuit into the air. Scooby stretched his neck and caught the snack in mid air. He swallowed it in one go.

"Rooby, rooby roo," he chuckled.

The End.
